At some point in our lives, we’re all going to face that day. It’s a day we dread, a day when something devastating happens, even if we hope it never will. The form of devastation can vary—perhaps it’s the day you lose your job, your home, or your car. Maybe it’s the day you lose a loved one, whether through death or separation. It could be the day you realize you can no longer care for yourself or when you find your finances in ruins. Or, it could be the day you discover that you are completely alone. Whatever form it takes, we will all have that day. And the harsh truth is that most of us aren’t prepared for it. We spend our lives preparing for success, for joy, and for the good things that happen to us. We embrace the unknowns that come with happiness. But when it comes to devastation, we often don’t prepare because we can’t truly envision what the worst looks like.
